This is a review of Maxim Osadchyi Maxim Osadchyi P.Eng. Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing Services Division of Osmaks Inc. If I could give a zero stars. I would. I hired Dr. Pipe (Osmaks) in October 2023 to install two alcove-style bathtub, and tub trim, faucet and shower head in my two bathrooms. I told Maksim and Ron (his son) that after they were done, I had a tile installer booked to do the tile around the tub. During the job, they didn’t level/shim the tub, didn’t level/center the shower head line, ripped out the floor plank in front of one tub (but not the second one), and destroyed baseboards (see attached pictures). Generally, left my bathrooms a disaster. When my tile installer came to do the tile job, he notified me that the tubs were not level. I immediately contacted Dr. Pipe and Maksim gave me every excuse in the book (my floor was not straight, etc.). Although he offers “emergency 24-hour service”, he couldn’t be bothered to send someone to level my tub until Monday. Hence, my tile installer could not finish his job and I was left without the use of both my bathtubs for over a week. After work in my basement, I had water flooding. Not once, but twice. Destroyed my brand new vanity that Dr. Pipe installed. Disrupted my tenant. Still no resolution to the damaged vanity. Maxim Osadchyi also took $150 for the installation of the shower trim and I had to pause the project for some time. Texted him that I would let him know when he could come back to finish. No response. Then when I reached out to finish the trim or refund the $150, he refused to do either. Scamming me out of $150. I do not recommend this company due to their unethical behaviour.
Response from the owner:Dear Alexandra, Thank you for your review. On October 17 and 18, 2023, we installed and tested two bathtubs at your property. Two days later, you contacted us regarding concerns about one of the tubs. During that conversation, you used abusive language and slurs, which we do not tolerate. You also relayed concerns raised by your tile and drywall contractor, whom you later dismissed, regarding the tub allegedly being out of level. On October 23, 2023, I personally attended the site to inspect your concerns. My inspection confirmed that the bathtub had been installed level. The photographs from that visit show a properly leveled tub, while the surrounding drywall and wall surfaces were uneven and not level. You withheld $100 for the installation of the faucet trim in the second bathroom because you had terminated your tile and drywall contractor, and there was no confirmed timeline for the completion of the remaining work. Our last site visit and conversation occurred in October 2023, nearly three years ago. Since that time, we have not received any further complaints or reports of problems related to our work. As more than two years and eight months have passed since the project began, and the delays resulted from the site not being ready for completion on your end, we consider the agreement inactive and the project closed. Our records indicate that the remaining installation work could not proceed due to incomplete site preparations. Accordingly, we cannot accept responsibility for the resulting delays or provide any reimbursement. Sincerely, Maxim Osadchyi, P.Eng.
Elvis did excellent job! Responded in a professional and polite manner to all my questions. I would recommend "Osmaks" to everybody without any reservation. Thank you, guys!
Response from the owner:Thank you Mikhail for your business. Sincerely, Max and Elvis

I had drain problems with my sink; they came out to fix it – but the problem persisted. I called them and they came out again to check. However, instead of trying again and doing a better job they said they would charge me the full amount again if they were to repeat the procedure. Really?!
Response from the owner:We are sorry to hear about your experience. Our goal is always to resolve the issue properly and provide clear communication about the work involved. In some cases, drain problems can have underlying causes that require further inspection or a different solution than the initial service, but we understand how frustrating this situation must have felt. Please contact us directly so we can review what happened and work toward a fair resolution. We value your feedback and the opportunity to make things right.

I received this name from a friend who was very happy with their job. I contacted them mid- morning Friday for a toilet that kept running. They told me they would be here between 1-4.Elvis arrived – punctual, professional, respectful and such a lovely person. He explained all about my toilet, as they are all different, and told me what had to be done. Of course I went ahead. He worked quickly, cleanly and at reasonable price. He checked the replaced part twice to make sure it was operating properly. Make sure you make note of this company and phone number. You will be very glad you did. Thank you Elvis for a great job. You guys are terrific. Julie Taylor
Response from the owner:Hi, Julie. It was our pleasure to help you with the toilet. Thank you for your business. Contact us any time you need plumbing service. Sincerely, Dr. Pipe.

Why Do Your Pipes Freeze in Toronto?

As you’re well aware, the winters in Toronto can get brutally cold. Sometimes the water in your pipes will dip below freezing and when it does, it will not only clog your pipes with ice, it begins to expand. Expanding ice in pipes puts your pipes at a major risk of leaking or even bursting.

By the time your pipes thaw, you could potentially have a serious leak and flooding situation on your hands complete with water damage and the need for some emergency repairs before things get worse.

Signs of Frozen Pipes:

Expand all

Slow or No Water Flow

  • If you turn on the tap and only a trickle of water comes out (or none at all), it could indicate a frozen section in your plumbing system. Check several faucets—if only one is affected, the problem could be isolated to that specific pipe.

Strange Sewage Smells from the Drain

  • Ice buildup in a drain pipe can cause wastewater to get trapped, leading to unpleasant odors rising back into your home. A sewage-like or musty smell could mean that water isn’t moving properly due to a frozen drain.

Frost on Exposed Pipes

  • If you have visible plumbing (such as beneath a sink or in the basement), check for a thin layer of frost forming on the surface of the pipes. This is a clear indication that the water inside is freezing and could soon cause the pipe to burst.

Gurgling or Strange Noises

  • If your pipes make bubbling, banging, or whistling sounds when you turn on the faucet, it could be due to trapped air or expanding ice within the drain.

Visible Ice Blockage in the Drain

  • If you have exposed pipework, you may actually see ice buildup at the drain opening. This is more common in exposed areas like basements and crawl spaces.

Frozen Water Pipe Prevention

Clear Outside Pipes and Faucets

Make sure you clear all outside pipes and faucets. Remove any hoses, turn off the shut-off valve inside, and let the water bleed out of the faucet until it’s fully drained.

Inspect Vulnerable Pipes in Uninsulated Areas

Look around your home for any vulnerable pipes in uninsulated areas like basements, attics, and crawl spaces. Any exposed pipe should be insulated as soon as possible. If your garage has a water supply, keep it as free from exposure to the cold as possible.

Insulate Exposed Pipes

You should make sure any exposed pipe is insulated against the cold. This can be as simple as wrapping a towel around the pipes yourself, but the most efficient and safe option is to call a plumber who can use professional materials specifically designed for this task.

Open Cupboards and Cabinets

If it’s getting especially cold, consider opening cupboards and cabinets in your kitchen and bathroom to expose the pipes to the warmer air of your home.

Don’t Shut Off Your Furnace When Leaving Town

If you plan to leave town in the winter, don’t shut off your furnace completely. This way, you won’t come home to frozen pipes.

Run Water at a Slow Trickle

In an absolute deep freeze when nothing else seems to be working, try running your pipes at a very slow trickle. Running water is less likely to freeze and may prevent damage until the temperature warms up slightly.

What If Your Pipes Still Freeze?

If preventative measures fail and your pipes have frozen over, you want to immediately shut off the main water valve and call a professional plumber.

Frozen Pipe Repair

  • The first step in repairing a frozen pipe is identifying where the problem is in the line.
  • Once the problem is identified we can then isolate that section to begin work.
  • If necessary we can devise a temporary solution to get you back to enjoying day to day activities while we work on thawing the pipes.
  • Thawing pipes can take some time as too much heat too fast could cause more damage. This process must be handled carefully.
  • Finally, once the pipes are thawed, we’ll be able to inspect for any damage or leaks and make repairs as needed.

FAQs

What steps should I take if a pipe in my home becomes frozen?

If you suspect a pipe is frozen, immediately turn off the main water supply to prevent potential flooding, and contact a professional plumber such as Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing who can locate the frozen section and safely thaw it. Attempting to thaw the pipe yourself can cause additional damage or make the situation worse.

How can I determine whether a pipe is actually frozen?

Signs of a frozen pipe include no water coming from faucets, frost or ice forming on exposed pipes, and gurgling noises when you try to use water, and Dr. Pipe often sees homeowners overlook these early indicators. You might also notice unusual smells or pressure issues in your plumbing system.

Can frozen pipes cause leaks or burst open?

Yes, frozen pipes are a common cause of pipe bursts, and Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing frequently repairs this type of damage. When water freezes inside the pipe, it expands and increases pressure, which can crack or completely rupture the pipe. This can result in major flooding and costly repairs, making it essential to address frozen pipes right away to avoid extensive damage.

What can I do to prevent my pipes from freezing in the future?

To prevent frozen pipes, insulate exposed plumbing, keep your home warm during cold weather, and seal gaps around windows and doors, as recommended by professionals like Dr. Pipe. Disconnect outdoor hoses and open cabinet doors under sinks so warm air can circulate around pipes in colder parts of your home.
