Waterproofing Shower and Tub

If you have a tile shower and tub in your home, then waterproofing them is actually mandatory simply because this is one of those places in the house that almost always exposed to a large amount of water. When you waterproof this area you are making sure that water does not easily reach the foundation of the room since it has the potential of causing cracks. Such cracks will only lead to the tiles finally becoming loose and they could eventually fall off. It is therefore important that you know the correct waterproofing membrane to choose so as to secure your shower and tub.

The first thin to do when you want to do waterproofing for your shower and tub is to make sure that the correct slope is put up during the installation. The slope should as a matter of fact automatically flow towards the drainage pipe that is found towards the bottom of the shower or tub. There are numerous types of membranes that can be used for waterproofing and for this type of assignment the softer waterproofing membrane that is sold in a roll does a better job. The way to use is so simple that all you need to do is roll out as much of it as you will require covering your requisite area and just making sure that you seal off the ends securely. The other advantage of using this type of membrane is that it is flexible and you can therefore manipulate it in any way that you desire. There are other waterproofing materials   that are usually so hard that give you such a hard time to fix into the places you want to use them. For those who consider using cement backer board to waterproofing tub it is important to ensure that the waterproofing membrane is placed beneath the cement backer board.

As soon as the shower and tub you are waterproofing have been set in a good slanting position, you can place the membrane followed by the cement backer board. It is after these two are in place that you can begin placing your tiles on the cement backer board. When installing the ceramic tiles it is important to make sure that you use the correct adhesive and simply make sure that you follow the instructions to the letter.  After you are done with the ceramic tiles you then fix the grout so that your tiles are secured firmly in place letting it dry before putting the sealer; bringing your shower and tub waterproofing exercise to an end.
