Backwater Valve Installation

Sewer Backwater Valves

During the normal course of action, the water from your Toronto home flows into a sewer in one direction. However, during regular sewer maintenance, or back-ups due to severe rains, the wastewater can flow back into your home. This is when a device called a backwater valve comes in – it prevents the wastewater flowing back into your home.

The City of Toronto actually requires you to have a backwater valve. In order to facilitate the installation and to make sure that they are working properly the City of Toronto administered a special subsidy called New Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program.

With this subsidy, you can get up to 80% of the invoiced cost (up to a maximum of $1,250) including eligible labour, materials, permit, and taxes. However, only a city-licensed plumber can do the work in order to be eligible for the refund. If you try to install the valve yourself and it results in damages the city can’t be held liable. That’s why you should always call a licensed plumber to get the job done right the first time.

Dr. Pipe Drain and Plumbing are licensed by the City of Toronto and all of our work is eligible for this subsidy.
