Sewer line replacement

It does not take a plumbing expert to know that your waterlines are important – a way to not only deliver water to your home or business, but to take it back to the city treatment plant as well. For the most part, water lines are basically ‘out of sight, out of mind’ in that they are buried under landscaping and within foundations. That being said, water lines become very prominent when there is an issue, some of which include:

  • Water randomly bubbling or flowing from within the ground or around the foundation
  • Soft, damp, soggy ground around the house
  • Unexplained water damage on floors in the home.
  • A noticeable loss in water pressure from the house fixtures

If any of these omens are present, some sort of water line replacement is probably imminent.

Prompt action is one of the best ways to limit the amount of damage from compromised water lines. Small leaks eventually become big leaks, which is why finding a solution fast is paramount. The first part of prompt action is calling a technician to inspect the area. In some instances, the solution is quick and affordable such as replacing a fixture connection. Other times not so much, meaning that you have to replace a part of the line. Either way, it will likely take a trained technician to diagnose the problem and recommend the solution.

While a damaged water line may sound like a catastrophe on paper, the truth is modern technologies have allowed for an easy repair using an epoxy coating to cover leaks, holes, and gaps which also prevents future corrosion. Depending on what the pipe is made of (lead or Polybutylene) and the amount of damage, sometimes a more expansive repair that involves excavation is required.

Water line replacement costs not all bad

There is no doubt that unplanned expenses towards your home can be stressful. That being said, there are some benefits that result from a water line replacement that push it more towards an investment than a repair. For example:

  • Lower water bills thanks to a more streamlined system and resolution of leaks
  • Cleaner water since the flow is not traveling over rusty, corroded pipes
  • Increased value of the home with documented recent water line replacement

Finally what a replacement or repair does is provide peace of mind. When things go wrong in a home, it is easy to ask, “What next?” The answer to that at least will not be a water line replacement.
